Hurricane Hermine has been with us for the last 17 days!! Yep, 17 days ago, we started hearing about it. So far, it has had many names. It has been a tropical wave, tropical depression nine, category one hurricane Hermine, tropical storm and now a post-tropical storm and/or cyclone (I have heard it called both).
The storm passed through North Carolina yesterday and last night as a tropical storm. There was a LOT of rain for some and not as much for others. Cedar Island, NC got over 13″ of rain while we got about 4.5″ according to our rain gauge. It was pretty much over by this morning for all except the Outer Banks.
So have we heard the last of Hermine?? For us, here in NC, it is over but this storm isn’t done yet. Now classified as a post-tropical storm, Hermine is expected to rebuild hurricane-force winds as it stalls off the Mid-Atlantic coast through early next week.
I took the photo above today at the end of Cedar Island near the ferry terminal. I expected to see larger waves in the wake of the storm but it wasn’t too bad out there. Lots of poufy, dark clouds and intermittent rain but for us, it is over.
